Brigantes Members Challenged by ” A Very Easy Quiz”

April 13, 2025

Well, that was what quizmaster, Dastardly Doveston, billed it as.

But the member attending on 8 April found out the hard way that that was not quite true. Split into five teams three or four strong we all breezed through mug shots (well, you either know them or you don’t), puzzled over dingbats (sometimes successfully when we worked out what dingbats were), and were amazed at how alike the outlines of New Zealand and Japan are (well at least to the ocularly challenged). However, when it came to the prices of things in 1954, well it was anyone’s guess and anyone generally got it wrong. But at least none of us will ever now forget that according to the Daily Mail the noteworthy thing about April 11 1954 was that it was the most boring day of the 20th Century! No, easy it wasn’t, and it stirred the latent Victor Meldrew in all of us.  But a great time was had by the assembled company. First and last were separated only by 5 points. And the intellectually superior team of Graham Chilvers, Diane Stokes and Bob Tunnicliffe won themselves an Easter egg each, while the rest of us mumbled that we hoped they choked on them. Yes, Rotary fellowship at its very best!
