Brigantes and Covid
Fund-raising efforts during the difficult months of the Covid crisis saw over £33,000 raised from members, their families and friends, and through innovative events such as a virtual climb of Everest and a virtual balloon race. These funds were distributed to 20 very worthwhile local and international causes.
Brigantes and the Future
Learning lesson from lockdown Brigantes has now re-modelled its structure to make it able to respond more quickly and flexibly to changing needs, and has introduced a new form of associate membership to encourage supporters to become more involved and give Rotary a try. Already Brigantes has worked with Associate member David Billington of Full Circle Funerals to support his Skydive for Martin House Children’s hospice and the A Night to Remember concert in Ripon Cathedral when local school children and professional musicians joined together in a programme of remembrance and to raise funds for local mental health charity Wellspring.
Skydive for Martin House
Independent funeral director and associate member of Harrogate Brigantes David Billington took part in a sponsored skydive from Hibaldstow Airfield in Lincolnshire. He was raising money for Martin House Children’s Hospice and was supported by Brigantes.
Martin House
Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa provides family-led care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. It supports families from across West, North and East Yorkshire, both at our hospice and in the community. The aim of Martin House is to provide family led care for children with life shortening conditions. It is a place where children, young people and their families can come to stay from time to time along their journey and find support, rest and practical help. “Our families are at the heart of everything we do and we value each member as an individual with their own needs.”
A Night to Remember Concert
David Billington and his colleague David Moon of Full Circle Funerals also promoted a concert to raise funds for local mental health charity Wellspring. Local school choirs and professional musicians including renowned pianist Julian Saphir came together at Ripon cathedral for a concert of remembrance and thanksgiving.
Full Circle Funerals comments:
“We know from our work supporting people who have been bereaved that playing or listening to music has a hugely positive impact on wellbeing and can be a powerful way to remember. This event was a wonderful opportunity to explore and experience the power music has on our mood and to raise money for Wellspring, which provides a vital wellbeing service in our local community.”
Again Harrogate Brigantes supported this initiative.
Wellspring
Wellspring is a counselling and training centre working to restore hope, develop resilience and facilitate positive change. It offers professional, confidential and affordable counselling to adults, young people and children. It provides training to individuals, groups and organisations to support healing, wholeness and growth in themselves and others.
