In 1993 and 1994, a Christmas Sleigh was taken around local housing estates, providing seasonal music and Brigantes very own Father Christmas to support door to door collections for a range of charities. This sleigh was abandoned in 1995 in favour of a ‘Santa’s Grotto’, which was set up at the entrance to ASDA supermarket. Brigantes member David Russell arranged for the grotto to be built by National Power and it was re-erected and dismantled every year, until it was replaced by a simpler format in recent years.
Brigantes is grateful to the Management Team at ASDA Harrogate for their continued support over the 24 years during which Brigantes have run the grotto.
Over 24 years Brigantes has raised almost £115,000 for local charities.
Those which have benefitted over the years include:
- Yorkshire Air Ambulance
- Skills 4 Living Centre
- Harrogate Homeless Project
- Wellspring Therapy and Training
- Riding for the Disabled
- St Michael’s Hospice
- Essential Needs
- Shelter Box
- Dementia Forward
